It was focused on activating local builders in the New York area to learn about and create civic tech solutions through the use of the Blockchain Operating System and NEAR’s tech stack. It was organized by Liberty DAO, a collaborative support system for builders and civic leaders doing work with their local communities. The mission is to empower New Yorkers to reclaim ownership over their digital identity, enhance authentic physical connections, increase financial and technical literacy, fuel civic collaboration, and prepare for the next generation of technological evolution by educating and building/using tools on the Blockchain Operating System (BOS) and more. Partners included NEAR NYC, the Bitcoin Center, Banyan Collective, and the overall movement was supported by Devhub’s Hackbox. **The main objectives were the following:** * Increase the influence of blockchain and Web3 technologies within North America, leveraging New York as a pivotal epicenter. * Create pathways for the usage of and building on NEAR, BOS, and its associated tools among developers, builders, and creators. * Garner a mindset rooted in practicality, emphasizing real-world applications as the driving force. Through the support of, we were able to start this movement where we dug deeper into what problems New Yorkers care to solve and began working on MVPs for projects that aim to create tangible improvements. We had 17 total project submissions centered around blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, open data, education, financial literacy, health, environment, and more. We had builders coming from various career backgrounds both in web 2 and web 3, as well as more diverse representation than usual builder events. We also had a number of local organizations that we were able to seed relationships with, creating a platform for them to present to builders on problem areas that they could use help with. **The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that we had set for ourselves prior to the event were the following:** * 100+ registered attendees * 50 hackathon participants * 10 projects and/or components submitted **In total, these were the following results:** 1. Total Unique Registrants: 141 a. Luma: 114 Link: https://lu.ma/hackoween b. Eventbrite: 27 Link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/738133466067 As demonstrated, we were able to exceed this KPI. 2. Participants: Between 65 and 75 total a. Taikai participants: 55 Link: https://taikai.network/hackbox/hackathons/HackoweenCivicTech b. Via sign up sheet, we had 54 people who signed in through our sign up sheet In total, between 65 and 75 total people had come in throughout the entirety of Hack-o-ween, with a median of 30-35 people at the event at any given time. Taikai was our main hackathon platform that we pushed for IRL attendees and we had 55 total registered participants through there, so we consider this KPI complete. 3. Projects Submitted: 17 total While there 13 submitted projects on Taikai, we had a total of 17 submissions on NEAR Social as can be seen on our Project Viewer built by our mentor Elliot Braem: https://everything.dev/hackoween.near/widget/app . These 17 submissions represented 28 individuals who submitted projects on NEAR Social and were all present at some point during the event. The projects were centered around blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, open data, education, financial literacy, health, environment, and more.
